Dr. Titianu's Story

From Personal Loss to Championing Women’s Health

Life has a way of leading us toward our true calling. For me, that journey began in Romania after losing my father in an accident. That early loss showed me how deeply a doctor’s compassion, skill, and understanding can touch patients’ lives — and it planted the seed for my lifelong dedication to medicine.

After graduating from medical school, my husband and I made the bold decision to immigrate to Canada in 2005. We faced the challenges of starting over — learning a new language, adapting to a different culture, and rebuilding my medical career from the ground up. While studying for my U.S. licensing exams, I worked as a paramedic, staying connected to what I loved most: caring for patients during some of their most vulnerable moments.

My determination paid off when I was accepted into the Internal Medicine Residency program at Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan.

That’s where I began to notice something troubling yet eye-opening — a cycle linking hormonal changes, excess weight, inflammation, and chronic disease.

In my clinical work, I met countless women in their 40s, 50s, and beyond who were struggling — not just with hot flashes or sleep problems, but with joint pain, brain fog, fatigue, and autoimmune flares. Many of them thought these symptoms were “just menopause” or “just arthritis,” when in reality, changing hormones were intensifying inflammation and affecting their immune systems.

For women with autoimmune conditions like rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, or Sjögren’s, this hormonal shift can be a tipping point — worsening flares, triggering new symptoms, and making existing treatments less effective. What I saw was clear:

  • Perimenopause and menopause are not just about reproductive health — they affect the entire body.

  • Autoimmune diseases and hormonal transitions are deeply interconnected.

  • Women need physician-led, personalized care to safely navigate these changes, especially when hormone therapy is being considered alongside other medical treatments.

I became Board Certified in Obesity Medicine and Lifestyle Medicine, earned my Certified Nutrition Coach credential through NASM, and became a Menopause Society Certified Practitioner, which qualifies me to help women during menopause and perimenopause. My goal was to fully understand the hormonal, metabolic, and immune interactions that cause so many women to suffer unnecessarily.

This path led to an exciting collaboration with Dr. Diana Girnita, founder of Rheumatologist OnCall®. Together, we created the OASIS Program, which addresses the inflammatory link between hormones, obesity, autoimmune disease, and menopause. Through this program, we focus on:

  • Reducing inflammation

  • Balancing hormones safely with FDA-approved therapy

  • Improving joint health and autoimmune stability

  • Achieving healthy, sustainable weight loss

  • Supporting sleep, mood, and cognitive health during the menopausal transition

What makes me most proud is not just the weight loss, lab improvements, or reduced medications — it’s when patients tell me:
“I’m sleeping again.”
“My pain is finally under control.”
“I feel like myself for the first time in years.”

That is why I practice menopause medicine — because women deserve to feel well, think clearly, and live fully, no matter their age or health history. You do not have to “tough it out” or accept worsening symptoms as just part of getting older.

Today, my passion is helping women break free from the menopause-inflammation-autoimmune cycle

Through medical expertise, compassionate listening, and evidence-based strategies, we address root causes — not just symptoms — so women can live with vitality, confidence, and hope.

If you are navigating menopause or perimenopause, struggling with weight gain, or managing an autoimmune disease, know that there is a path forward.

Together, we can balance your hormones, calm inflammation, protect your joints, and help you reclaim the life you deserve.
